Academics

All students work on improving their math or reading skills throughout the year by using the I-Ready K-12 adaptive Diagnostic for reading and mathematics. The web based program pinpoints student needs down to the sub-skill level. Students have ongoing progress monitoring to determine whether students are on track to achieve end-of-year targets.

Nutrition Classes

In collaboration with the Houston Food Bank, once a month students learn about the importance of health and nutrition based on the USDA Myplate and Healthy Guidelines for Americans. Each class includes instruction and hands on meal preparation.

S.T.E.M.

Students are introduced to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics once a month through Houston Public Library’s Community Engagement Program. Once a month from September through February kids have the opportunity to build rockets, work on their critical thinking skills while using the Mindcraft Education Server, create their own radio station mixing board and so much more.

Fine Arts

In an effort to develop the whole person our students have the opportunity to be exposed to and participate in activities such as: Jiu Jitsu, Cheerleading, Dance, etc. on Fridays.

Homework Help

Monday through Thursday, students work on homework from 5:30pm – 6:30 pm. Each student has access to one-on-one tutoring with his or her classroom teacher or one of our many academic volunteer tutors.

Special Activities

From time to time our students get once in a lifetime experiences like learning soccer from Houston Dynamo players and coaches, sit side by side with superstars like Jordin Sparks, or go backstage with Hip Hop artist Lecrae.
